I started having trouble trying to copy text by highlighting with my mouse. I would start dragging across the text and some of the highlight would go away. Some times it would all stay highlighted until I released the mouse button and then all the highlighting disappear. Sometimes it would work ok. At first I thought maybe I was just maybe accidentally letting up pressure on the button. But it continued to happen over a course of several days. So I decided it was time for a new mouse. I got a pretty basic corded mouse - but it is optical. I would not even be touching the mouse and the pointer would start to move very slowly. At first I thought something was wrong with it and I would have to take it back. Then I had a thought - it was optical. I was using a mouse pad with alot of color. I switched to a different mouse pad that was grey. Problem solved. I am glad I didn't go running back to get a different one. Fay

| Good thinking, Fay!! Sorry that you had a buy a new mouse, though! Our desktop computer is a corded optical mouse, and we don't use a mouse pad and have no trouble at all! I'm not sure which is the correct way to do it--with or without. _________________ Ruth

Hi Ruth I may have spoken too soon. Switching mouse pads has helped but I am still having some trouble mainly on my company laptop when I boot it up first thing in the morning. Don't know if it is a conflict with something on it or what. After it gets booted up, when I first move the mouse - it goes spastic. But the really strange things is, if I shut down and reboot again then it works. The problem I posted about before - was a little different than this. So I am not really sure what is on -so in short, switching mouse pads has lessened the problem not not eliminated it. I am not sure why switching does seem to have helped some - the pointer is not moving on its own near as much as it was I use a mouse pad - just because I don't like the feel of moving it around on the desk surface. I should have know it would not really be as simple as switching mouse pads. NIES (nothing is ever simple) Fay

LOL...I sure can relate to NIES...Fay maybe it is one that you don't need a mouse pad? I know I tried one with my last new mouse and the pad didn't work so I don't use one. It was hard getting used to not having the mouse pad but now I wouldn't like it anyother way... HI Ruth...If it works better without one and you like it don't use one. The pads just made mine work hard or not very well... Ok gals nice seeing you... _________________

Hi Sheila, Yes, not supposed to need a mouse pad. I just don't like the way it "feels" without one. May have to give it a try though and see how it works. Fay

I just did google search on "optical mouse" and "mouse pad". I discovered they make mouse pads specifically fior optical mice. I did not know that. Even found a review where someone said they bought one becuase they were having trouble with their mouse moving ramdomly around the screen . Fay
