Hi Repa,

Our AV software (Ez Anti-Virus) detected this virus in a System Volume Information (restore) file: Win32\chepvilgeneric on June 9. If I do a system restore to a date before this one, would it activate the virus?

Thanks

No, but Sam, I would advise not restoring your computer to any previous restore date unless you absolutely have to. Any viruses that are in the restore file you restore will be activated. As long as a restore file with viruses is not restored, any viruses on it are harmless. Finish cleaning your computer and then delete all of your Restore files (see Step 13 of Sticky #6).

Thank you Repa - I thought so.

We have been having a very hard time with Housecall... it takes over 5 hours to scan and in the process of "listing" it hangs up

Housecall is a good one, but if it keeps locking up on you, try one or 2 of the others instead. After you think you have your computer cleaned and have finished Sticky #6, you could try it again when you have time to kill.
