| Repa, and anyone else,
1) Am I the only one having problems when updating? I've been getting an Error box, and asking me to send the Error report.
2) When I try to make a screenshot of it, the Error box blocks the little box where you do the Jpeg and Save. The Save box comes up in behind the Ad-Aware Error box in other words. Then when I looked to see if it saved the screenshot, it did not.
Thanks, | |

| I've still got V. 8.1 and V. 8.3 of Ad-Aware, but not V8.2, unfortunately. So, there's no getting V. 8.2 back now, Huh? | |

| I don't recall any major problems with version 8.1 - you could try that and see if it will update the virus definitions ok. If so, go with that, or else use Windows Defender until something better that's free comes along. As an alternative, you might try Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). This is an anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware program wrapped into one package from Microsoft that is getting good reviews. Consumer Reports rates Microsoft Security Essentials as one of the top 2 Free Anti-Malware Programs. My 2 chief concerns with it is that it doesn't appear to update the latest protection technology and signatures everyday like Avast does, at least the last time I looked at it in depth. Also, it uses Spynet, which Microsoft warns that personal information might end up in SpyNet submissions, but that it is not used to identify you or contact you. Other than those 2 things, I haven't seen any really bad reviews about it and am thinking of putting it on one of my 3 computers and trying it out - I can always uninstall it if I find something I don't like. Note: You will have to uninstall Avast and Ad-aware if you decide to go this route. Before you decide to download and use Microsoft Security essentials, read the following reviews: http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-Security-Essentials/3000-2239_4-10969260.htmlNote: Be sure you read this next review and user reviews at the bottm of the last page before deciding on MSE: www.thetechherald.comYou can read more about Microsoft Security Essentials and also download it here if you decide to try it: http://www.microsoft.com/security/products/mse.aspxNote: I still believe that Avast is the best free anti-virus software out there today because of its realtime shields, but it only takes care of Viruses for the most part. You still need other malware applications to check your system, like Spybot, Malwarebytes, Sophos Anti-rootkit, and SuperAntiSpyware. Ad-aware is ok for some realtime anti-spyware protection, and so is Windows Defender. Windows Defender not the best, but better than nothing. Windows Security Essentials tries to combine into one application what you otherwise need several programs to do as mentioned above, and the reviews on it are pretty good so far, for the most part. It is the only application that combines anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-malware, and anti-rootkit into one application for "free." PCMag gave MSE a fair rating, not as good as the others listed above. You can read their review here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2353386,00.asp | |

| Repa, You may not remember, but I asked you soon after updating to Ad-Aware V. 8.3, if I could get Ad-Aware V. 8.2 back, because updating Ad-Aware V. 8.3 was a real pain in the neck. Took way longer than any of the previous versions we ever had before to update.
Since Ad-Aware V. 8.3 is the only thing I'm having problems with, I'm gonna try to install Ad-Aware V. 8.1 again. I can't remember having any trouble with it. And, I sure don't want to have to uninstall Avast, or anything else. In case you don't know by now, I literally despise having to pull maintenance on these computers, just because some sleazeball is always trying to screw up our computers, or else steal you're identity!
As for Ad-Aware V. 8.2 set-up, I think when I upgraded to V.8.3, that during that installation process, that it got rid of the old 8.2 version, and it must've also done away with my V. 8.2 set-up, because I don't remember deleting it. And, that is my reasoning, since I didn't delete Ad-Aware V. 8.1 set-up.
So, I'm all for taking the route of least resistance. But, as I asked you in earlier post, since I don't have Ad-Aware V. 8.2 set-up, is there no way to re-install it again. Is there any way for you to send your Ad-Aware V. 8.2 set-up to me in an email?
I hope there's a way for you to send me your Ad-Aware V. 8.2 set-up? Waiting to hear from you. Thanks.

| Can't send it in email as only 10mb files are allowed. I might be able to upload it to my website and give you the address for downloading it, but it will take a while to upload and it will have to wait until I get back from Alabama next week as we are leaving in the morning. Not even sure that will work, I'll have to try it and see. Try using 8.1 and see if it will work and accept updates until then. I haven't found 8.2 on the internet that I consider a safe website to download from. | |

This is for when you return. I removed V8.3, and now have Ver.8.1 once again. After install was completed, it offered me a newer version. I'll try to find out what version that is. I'm thinking it might be V 8.3, or maybe V 8.2? I'll post if I find out.

| WC, I've sent you a PM with the download link for Ad-Aware 8.2.0 installer. Save it to your My Downloads, uninstall 8.1 and then run the installer to install version 8.2.0. | |

| Thanks Repa! I'll get it installed this weekend. I remembered that Ad-Aware will remove any other versions as you are installing another version. So, won't it be OK to not un-install V 8.1 beforehand? | |

| Ok, Repa, got'er done! All seems to be doing OK.
I remembered at the last minute that I have much better luck downloading these things in Internet Explorer. Had to stop download in Firefox.
Another thing I remembered at the last moment. I didn't have the 8.2 version still in my downloads folder because when I installed V8.3, I let the installer go ahead and remove my V.8.2, as I mentioned it will do for you. But, the kicker is, that when you do that, it also removes the installer from whichever folder you have it stored in. So, before continuing with the install, I went back and removed it from Add/Remove myself. That way you still have your previous version in case you need it.
Thanks very much for the Ad-Aware link!! BTW, did I mention that I hated that new 8.3 version???

| No one had anything good to say about 8.3, WC. Thanks for letting me know you are done. I'll get that file off my website now as it is a large file! | |

Warning! Beware of Download Manager install request in Ad Bar Under Geeks Logo | 10/31/2013, 16:09 by Repa | Just noticed that when I went to logon that there is an ad under the Geeks Logo that says, "your Download Manager might be outdated. Do you want to install it now?" Don't fall for it! Ignore it!
