I have a couple of "bad" hard drives - one an internal drive and one an external drive. I have just stashed them away and am holding onto them because I fear someone might still be able to get information off them. Am I stuck with just holding onto them foreever? Not a big deal - I can do that. Just wondering what other people do.

Fay

The best way to ensure that information can never be retrieved from an old hard drive is to take it apart and smash it into pieces with a hammer, then throw the pieces into the trash.

Repa,

OK, That is kind of what I was afraid of. I guess somtime or other I will have to see if I can figure out how to get them apart.

Thanks

My brother is here and I had him try to take the external hard drive apart. He knows nothing about computers - but since the point was to destroy it- I didn't figure that mattered. He got it out of the case, but wasn't able to dissasemble the drive. But at least not it will take up less room, so guess for now I'll just store it and the old internal drive in my closet. That will be ok.

Fay, if you've got the case off, you should be able to see the disk. Just beat the dickens out of it with a hammer or even better a sledge hammer until it is squashed and bent out of shape.

Guess I can just take out all my frustrations on it. Laughing
