I should not have messed with it Empty
PostSubject: I should not have messed with it   I should not have messed with it Empty2/4/2012, 13:08

I was trying to do some straightening things in the computer room. Found some information about a free backup downlaod for one of my hard drives. Decided to try it - bad decisiosn. The install did not finish - it errored out and I could not get booted back up in regular mode. Had to boot to safe mode and do a system restore to a point before I tried the download. I think I am all ok now, but it kind of broke my momentum for cleaning in here. I had a gut feeling that I should not mess with the download - should have listened to my gut Smile Did not really need the software anyway.

Stick with your external hard drive for backups, Fay. You know what you are doing there, and with online backups you don't. Always check out things that are "free" before downloading anything. Good places for this are majorgeeks, bleepingcomputer, cnet, pcworld. Or, enter the product name + reviews and see if a trusted site comes up that has a review on the product.

Repa,

I was not trying to do an online backup - just download some backup software that was supposed to be available with the IOMEGA hard drive. In cleaning up the computer room I came across the info that came with the drive. It said you could do a free download of the software, so thought I would just give it a try. I really don't need it, so I am just going to forget it.

I am not sure I trust any of the online backups.

Should have went with my gut and not messed with it at all. But at least the restore worked and I think all is ok now.

Thanks,
Fay

Repa,

I just probably was not very clear. It turned out to not be a good idea anyway. I am sure glad the restore to a previous point worked. I did not want to have to try to use my system image and restore that way.
