ethernet card speed Empty
PostSubject: ethernet card speed   ethernet card speed Empty3/8/2012, 13:35

This may be a dumb quesion - but here goes.

My neighbor may be looking at computers sometime in the near future.
He will be looking for a desktop with an ethernet card.
I thought most of them now came iwth 10//100/1000 at least, but I think I saw some that said 10/100.

I figure the 10/100 would probaly work ok now, but I am wondering about the future. He has had his current computer for about 9 years so I figure when he gets another one - he will have it for a lont time also.

He has 50M cable intenet connection which is currently the fastest they have. But in the future, if they offer a speed over 100 and he wanted to get that, - what would happen to his conection if he had a 10/100 card?

Thanks
Fay

As far as I can determine, he would get the data at the 100mbs speed, or close to it.

Repa,

That is kinda what I thought, but I was not sure if it would work at all. But at any rate - it seems that if he does get a new comptuer that he should probably get one with a better ethernet card if he plans on keeping it for a long period of time like he has his current one. Do you agree?

Fay

Sure, if he can find a computer he likes that comes with the 1G card.
