My Scans Empty
PostSubject: My Scans   My Scans Empty2/18/2012, 16:00

Repa,
Since I've been using Ccleaner my scans have not found even 1 tracking cookie. SuperAntispyware used to always find one particular tracking cookie, but, only if I ran it in "Full Scan" Mode, but it has not popped up since I began using Ccleaner.

1) Here's the way I've developed my scanning program. One week I'll do a Defrag, Spybot, And a Disc Clean-up. The following week I'll scan with SuperAntispyware, Malwarebytes all the above in Safe Mode, and then do a Boottime scan with Avast in Regular mode.

2) Should I always do the Avast Boottime scan, or a regular Avast scan of some kind in Safe Mode?

3) I'd like your opinion of the way I'm doing my scans? I guess I could get by with once a month scans? Or is the way I've got it set the best way to go? Your thoughts please?

If you are behaving yourself on the internet, you could run those scans every other week, defrag once or twice a month, run ccleaner daily at the end of each day. Ccleaner gets all those cookies when it runs.

What about Avast, should I always run the Avast Boottime scan in regular mode, or a regular Avast scan of some kind in Safe Mode, or what?

Schedule a quick scan daily and do a boottime scan every other week. To schedule a quick scan daily select Scan Now from the main panel. In the Quick Scan pain, select the Settings link in the lower right side of the pane. In the window that appears, select Scheduling from the left column. Set the time you want. Running a Quick scan daily will not impact your resources noticably. You can continue to use your computer if the scan starts while you are using it.

In order for the Avast scheduled scans to run, doesn't the computer have to be turned on?

yes, schedule it during the time your computer is normally on. You won't notice any difference in performance if you are doing anything while it is running. You will get a window in the lower right of your screen telling you that it is running a scan. You can X it out and it will still run in the background.

I got the daily scan "Scheduled".

1) Is there a button anywhere on Avast that shows that a Daily Scan is SET?

2) Can you tell me the length, or duration of the Quick Scans?

only where you set it up

Depends on the size of your hard drive the number of files and folders, but it goes pretty quick. It won't impact you if you are using your computer, just keep going with what you are doing.

Repa,
1) Since I'm doing the daily Avast Quick Scans, and a Boot Scan every other week, is there any need to ever do a Normal Avast Scan?

2) How do I determine if I should do Quick Scans, in Normal or Safe Mode with SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes, or do full Scans with them, in Normal or Safe Mode?

3) One other thing. When getting ready to scan today with Malwarebytes, after opening it up, at the top of the box, it has Malwarebytes and next to it it says In parenthesis (Trial). You might remember that one time I had accepted a 2 week trial thing from Malwarebytes, and I think it included real time protection or something like that. With that saying (Trial) on there, is that any cause for concern?

No, the boot scan does that. It's kinda like running a full scan in safe mode, only better. No malware will be running during the boot scan, so better chance of detecting malware if it is on your machine.

2) How do I determine if I should do Quick Scans, in Normal or Safe Mode with SuperAntiSpyware, and Malwarebytes, or do full Scans with them, in Normal or Safe Mode?

If your computer has been clean for a while, then do the quick scans in normal mode. If something is found during the quick scans, then do a full scan. If something is found in the full scan, then do another full scan in safe mode and until it finds nothing.

3) One other thing. When getting ready to scan today with Malwarebytes, after opening it up, at the top of the box, it has Malwarebytes and next to it it says In parenthesis (Trial). Well, you'll find out after the trial period is over if you can keep using it or have to upgrade and pay. The trial should be only for the realtime monitor, but if it is for the entire software, then we'll have to find the free version or find something else. I noticed it was shareware, but thought it was only for using the realtime monitor that there is a cost.
