My net book came with windows 7 starter - and it does not have mahjong. About all I paly is spider and mahhong. It has spider but not mahong. Have any idea where I might be able to gt a copy tht will run on 7 starter - eiterh free - or cheap.

I ahve read soem things that say the regular mahjong on win 7 would not run on starte even in you could get it - becuse of lst of the aero interface. I don't know if that is tured or not.

Can't help with Mahjong, Fay. I don't play games of any kind on my computers. I'll ask my wife and see if she might know something - that's her favorite game too, but she's using a Windows XP machine.

I really did not figured you played games, but jsut thought I would ask in case Smile

There are quite a few fee download places but I don't trust them.

I did download a free tiral from Amazon, decided I did not want it. Shortly after I had a problem with the computer (netbook). PRobaly was not due to that but....

I did not have any speakers plugtd into it. Was tyrng to mess with setting to turn up the sound. Little bit later - it started makeing a really loud squaling sound. I was about to panic and so was my dog. Could not figur out what to do. Enedy up just turning it off - that set up otrhe problems. Had troulbe getting it back up - asked me if I wanted to do a system restore - I said yes. Came back up - but nothing would respond. Even when I click on my comptue r it would hang. Ttired to open sevearl things - nothing wouldwork.
Was jsut gettting ready to tyr to resotr to factory setting - when things started responding againg. I do not know what was keeping them from respongding then why all of a sudden started responding again. Was just gald it did.

I don't play many games - but I do like spider and mahjong. Would like to have some ersion of mahhong that would work on win 7 statert. But don't want to download from somepalce I am not pretty comfortable sith.

Enjoy your vist.

Frances bought Hoyle Mahjongg a couple of years ago at Staples for XP. She said it was very cheap, but doesn't remember the exact price. You could check and see if you can find it for Windows 7 Starter. The version she bought has 1500+ backgrounds, 500+ tile sets and 340+tile layouts.

repa,

We do not have a Staples here. I went to their website and looked but can not find Hoyle Mahjong. There are several diffent ones called Hoyle mahohng .... Several of them do not list win 7 and one that did, when I read the reivew - people were complaing it di dnot work. To complciate matters- even if it works on win 7 home etec, there may be a qustion as to whether it works on 7 Starter. I alos looked at walmarts site and did not find that one.
Guess if I really want one, will just have to try to find one that says win7 - hope it works on win 7 starter - and hope I like ther version.

I guess first I need to wait anway, and see if the netbook starts freezing again.

THanks for asking your wife for me.

Fay

Faye if you go to Electronics in WalMart they have a game etc section. Check what they have for games, should have some inexpensive ones out there,

Amazon has them for under $10 or go for the new $4 one (have done the later on many things and it is as good as the full price option.)

Holly,

I have already looked in WalMart. Our store here - only had one with Mahjong on it - was mahjong and a couple of other games. Was not sure it was what I wanted, but was only about 10.00 so thought about getting it anyway. Then realized, I had no way of installing it on my netbook. It does not have a built it cd/dvd player. So I did not get it.

I ended up getting one from Amazon for a little over 6.00 that I could download. Am not crazy about it, but it will do. It was cheap and I could download so did not have to buy an external player.

I did not see the 4.00 one. Was looking for ones I could download. If it is downloadable - I missed it some way. Not sure waht you are talking about on the 4.00 one. Is that some kind of special deal they have.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Fay

The ones I looked at were on CD so they wouldn't have worked. If you search for Hoyle Mahjong you will see the regular price is 9.99 then right below it is 11 new from $4.00.

Hoyles Mahjong

Does that explain it? The $4.00 and up ones are from someone other than Amazon, but they are reputable or at least the ones I have dealt with are. I do check their ratings/reviews etc before choosing. Didn't think about the fact you wanted it downloadable.

Fay, I don't know what all you can do with a netbook, but if you can set it up to share on your network, you can copy the files on a cd to a folder on one of your other computers and download it from there to your netbook.

Repa,

Yes, you can share files with other computers. I am not sure what all the limitations are but you can do most things. The win 7 starter limits it somewhat - again I am not sure what all the limitation are. And the RAM limits it some.

I never ever thought about that. I guess I just figured that it would somehow not work. I'll have to give that a try some time.

I am trying to get all this network and sharing stuff figured out. I have posted several questions and may post more. Posted some more yesterday. If it gets to be too much just let me know. I have tried to read some on it. But get confused and in some cases get conflicting information.

Thanks for the idea,
Fay

Repa,

I did what you suggested or sort of, I just copied to an usb external dirve, then moved it over to the netbook and installed that way. Worked fine. Thanks for the idea.
Willl most software install that way. I guess it should, but was not sure if they had some slick way to preven it to help guard aginst software piracy.

Thanks again
Fay
