PostSubject: question - -cd/dvd drives and cd/dvd disks - speeds   question - -cd/dvd drives and cd/dvd disks - speeds Empty10/28/2012, 18:01

I have a question regardindg cd drives and the cd disks abou the speed. I should probably know this, but I don't, so instead of getting some CDs that might not work, I will ask.

Will a CD work in a drive that is rated with a lower speed than they are, will they work in a drive with a speed rated higher than they are.

I found this on my internal drive:

•CD-R: 40x
•CD-RW: 40x
•DVD-RAM: 8x
•DVD-R: 8x
•DVD-R DL: 8x
•DVD+R: 8x
•DVD+R DL: 8x
•DVD-RW: 8x
•DVD+RW: 8x

•Read Speeds:
•CD: 40x
•CD-R: 40x
•CD-RW: 40x
•DVD: 16x
•DVD-RAM: 16x
•DVD-R: 16x
•DVD-R DL: 16x
•DVD+R: 16x
•DVD+R DL: 16x
•DVD-RW: 16x
•DVD+RW: 16x

I am going to purchace some CD's and proalbylater some DVD's to record.
What speeds of CDs and DVDs will work in the drive?

Fay

I "think" any will work. The player should read the speed capability of the disk and will record or playback accordingly, depending on its own capability. I think the list you gave is the maximum write and read capabilities of the cd/dvd player, but will work at lower speeds.

Repa,

OK, Some of the things I read sounded like that might be the case, but I thought I remembered reading some things some time back that said differently. But, now I am thinking that it must have been something else.

Thanks,
Fay
