Avast Boottime Scan Empty
PostSubject: Avast Boottime Scan   Avast Boottime Scan Empty10/26/2013, 13:55

1. Hey Repa, my avast wasn't updating, so while trying to seewhat was wrong, it was time to renew my registeration, and i was offered a new version 2014, it shows the version in the upcoming screen shots.

2. Anyway, i've only had this new version about a week and today i was doing my scans, and I can't find anywhere to schedule a Boottime scan?????

3. It also has a "Browser Cleanup feature that is in the screen shot coming.

4. Do you have this new version?

5. It seems I always get stuck with these new problematic versions. I wish they would leave stuff that works alone! Here's the screen shots I wanted you to look at & see if you can help any. These pics show the version & other things that may prove helpful to you..??

a) Avast Boottime Scan About_10

b) Avast Boottime Scan Avast_10
Should I remove what avast suggests removing in the pic?

c) Avast Boottime Scan Infect10 This virus was blocked with the new version yesterday. I don't know where it came from or why?

Please help if you can. Thanks.........
6. One more thing. Recently, while posting screen shot here, including today, when I click "Host Image" the popup to post scrshot covers the text area right here where I'm writing this, so in order to get the screenshots posted I have to switch back & forth with the "Host Image" icon above to get it posted. Probably nobody else has this problem but me I would imagine...?? But, have you heard of this happening before? Thanks.........

freepillsorder.com is a known, dangerous website. What are you doing there?, or if it's a 3rd party piggybacking on another website, don't go to that other website anymore, whatever it was you were at when this happened.

The boot-time scan on the older version of Avast is found by clicking on the Scan Computer icon on the left side. I assume you can access it by clicking on the Scan icon on the new version. I don't have this version, so can't advise you if you don't find it there. To get information about it, Google the question, "where is the boot-time scan on Avast version 2014.9.0.2006"

my wife was on the computer most of the day.....i only discovered this when i right clicked the avast icon in sys tray>then clicked "show last pop up message".....she said she did not visit freepillsorder.com, & i know i did not...so i assume it was the 3rd party piggybacking.....i finally got her to always check any site with site advisor before she goes to any website....so, i don't know...... however i did find this FAQ page & 36 mentions Boottime scan> http://www.avast.com/faq.php?q=how+to+do+a+boottime+scan+with+avast+version+2014.9.0.2006 , & here is that link>http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB19 is this what i need to do bootime in safe mode?

Open Avast. Click the Scan Icon button. Near the top right of the screen in the blue bar area next to the Start button is a pull-down menu. Click the down arrow and select Boot-time scan from the available options given (see example image below):

Thanks Repa,
1.  I did not even notice that menu button before.......

2.  My computer has been running real slow today, & last nite when replying to this thread, the cursor in the text box started moving , on it's own, as if I was typing, strange, but, on the other hand, I've had that happen on this site before,

computer is running faster than it has been all day, but still not as fast as normal, so, I'm thinking about going back to an earlier Restore point, before Avast blocked that virus, to see if that helps things.....Tell me if I'm right or wrong.....I don't think the blocked virus could cause any of this since it was blocked, but I was just wondering, right or wrong?   Going bak to an earlier Restore point probably would not help would it?

If avast said it blocked it, then you don't have it. Going back may or may not get rid of a virus if you have one - depends on the virus and where it settled on your computer. I don't think you have anything to worry about, but run scans on your computer anyway as you have time, and always run ccleaner after being on the internet before you shut down.

If avast said it blocked it, then you don't have it.

That's what I thought.

I just remembered, I forgot to mention the most important thing......yesterday, & now again this morning, computer is really slow again, & the System restore back did not help, so I un did that....I think this must be the problem, Internet Explorer keeps saying IE Not Responding this morning, same as it did yesterday.....

Would you know what to do about this.......? thanks.....

Not responding is an inherent problem with IE, and often slow. Use firefox if you find it too annoying.

1. Had not had that much of a problem with the Not responding message before yesterday & again today. I said yesterday that when this thing starts running faster that I was gonna get Firefox again. I'll see if I can find the post that you had the links for firefox in it.

2. Windows Update keeps wanting me to install IE 10. Do you still have IE 8 as I do? Have you done any checking on IE 10? Is it any better about the "Not Responding" thing, or does it have a lot of "glitches" also?

3. I read Fay's post about her IE troubles. I thought maybe it was like mine, due to the "Not Responding" thing, & making her computer slow?

4. So, when IE is running slow, & having trouble responding, & doing the Not responding message, is there nothing that can be done about it except wait it out????? Why can't they fix that?

5. BTW, it's 6:30 PM CDT here now, & like yesterday, my computer is running much faster now.....Wonder why early in the day it was running real slow, & then at night it works nearly normal?

Thanks Repa......

I do frequently have that problem but it was about 100 times (or even more) worse. I went into manage addons and disabled the avast addons -that seemed to help a LOT.
Do not knowc if AVAST made a change that cuased the trouble and have fixed it now - have not tried enabling them again yet.

I had IE10 and went back to IE8 after trying it for a couple of months.

I don't know

Are you on cable? If so, expect your bandwidth to be reduced during heavy traffic hours and your computer to slow down on the internet. Firefox works a little faster than IE and rarely stops responding. Download is here:

I'm gonna make another post in the "Firefox Browser" thread that I started on 10/01/13......it'll make it easier for me to keep it all together better....Please keep your eye peeled for my post if you will? Thanks.......
