Browsers

Hey Repa,
I recently installed Opera again......when immunizing Spybot, I saw it lists IE & Firefox, but not Opera.......

1. Does that mean Spybot does not protect the Opera browser?

2. And, also, now I'm thinking that my Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Avast, & Windows Defender, that maybe none of my protection is working on Opera????? Do you know if that is the case?

That's what it means. As far as Malwarebytes and SuperAntispyware, they are just scanners for malware on your computer and have no realtime protection unless you get the paid-for version. Windows Defender will protect against malicious downloads to some extent - it isn't the best, but better than nothing and free, so the price is right. You can check Avast under Additional Protection > Browser Protection to see which browsers are protected, including WebRep and Sandboxing. Probably not Opera, but I don't have Opera so can't say for sure. You can also look in Spywareblaster to see what browsers it passively protects, although I don't think Opera will be one of them.

Opera appears to come with its own fraud and malware protection, so you should probably keep it updated regularly. See

OK, thanks for the link.....I was thinking that I should uninstall Opera, before I saw your reply, & I might anyway, unless I feel comfortable that there's enough protection available......when I had Opera before I didn't even think about the protection, if it was covered or not, just was taking it for granted that it was.....thanks very much for your insight!!........

EDIT: Repa, would you be afraid to use Opera, based on the link you posted, & with or without any coverage from Avast or any of our Superantispyware, Malwarebytes, or Spybot, etc.?????

Yea, probably. Avast will prevent malicious downloads on any browser for which it has a definition in its database. But, as with any anti-virus, anti-malware program, it doesn't always detect everything. That's why you need to be cautious and exercise discretion on where you go on the internet, and use things like SiteAdvisor and WebRep, and NoScript in Firefox, and the passive protection against malicious websites provided by Spywareblaster and Spybot.

I most likely will uninstall it..........

You need Adobe Flash Player installed and the add-on enabled in your browser in order for the video to play.

Yeah I've got Adobe Flash Player installed, I was in Firefox when it wouldn't play.....it turned out to be what I thought, I saw it again on 60 minutes last nite, & also the first time it ran.....that's one thing that prompted me to reconsider Opera......I've already uninstalled it now anyway..... Thanks again........!

EDIT: I noticed in the 60 minutes piece that the lady that was trying to opt out, was also using DuckDuckGo.com search engine, the one that I started using when I first discovered it a year or 2 ago......and the best I remember that you did not use it at the time...I don't know about now......thanks again...
