defender and avast Empty
PostSubject: defender and avast   defender and avast Empty12/1/2014, 22:00

On my  tablet with 8.1 I had Windows Defender activated.  I just installed Avast  and it did turn defender off as I had read.
I have not installed Spybot or anything like that yet =  doing a little at a time.

Yea, Defender on Win 8 must be Microsoft Security Essentials, which I have no faith in. Avast and Windows Defender work well together on my Win 7 computers. Perhaps the old Windows Defender is still available somewhere and will work on Win 8 - I'll look for it and see. In the mean time, you are better off with Avast as it looks for more than just viruses now, like root kits and pups, updates several times a day (Windows Defender will update a couple of times a week if you're lucky) and does a through job when you run a boot time scan which I would do at least every other week instead of monthly until we can find a suitable free realtime application for malware.

Yeah, I feel better with Avast as my antivirus.
