| I'm confused as to why I can't fully immunize (it says that I'm not the administrator) because I am the administrator. When I tried to immunize, it told me that it couldn't fully immunize because my settings were too low??? How do I change the settings and what should I change them to? Also, whenever I check for problems, I can't remove everything it finds either because it says that I'm not the administrator. What is wrong?
Thanks! | |

| Ruth, what operating system are you running - XP or Vista? What version of Spybot do you have 1.6 or 1.6.2? If you don't have 1.6.2, upgrade to that version. There are problems with Vista and Version 1.6.
If you still cannot fully immunize with version 1.6.2 in normal mode, try clicking "Undo" and then click "Immunize." Note: Undo could take a while, so be patient. If that doesn't work or you still cannot fix problems with version 1.6.2 in Normal Mode, make sure you have downloaded the latest updates and then go into Safe Mode and login to the Administrator account. Run "Immunization" and then "Check for Problems" in Safe Mode and see if things work right there. It's possible you could have malware that is interferring with Spybot in Normal Mode. By running in Safe Mode, you will prevent malware from running, thus making it easier for your scanner to detect and remove malware.

| Thanks Repa! I didn't know what to do.
I have Vista for my operating system. I have version 1.6.2 of Spybot. I ran an Immunization and a Check for Problems in Safe Mode and there were no problems! There were zero unprotected items when I Immunized, and it removed all of the problems that were found!
Should I always run Spybot in Safe Mode? Should I always Immunize before Checking for Problems? How often should I run it?

Should I always run Spybot in Safe Mode? Should I always Immunize before Checking for Problems? How often should I run it? Most of the problems experienced with scanners, including Anti-virus applications seem to be with Vista. It is always best to run your malware scanners in Safe Mode, and a good idea to run your anti-virus application in Safe Mode occasionally as well. Some viruses and malware can actually block detection and/or removal of the malware in Normal Mode, or cause the scanner to behave abnormally. You should do scans in Safe Mode about once per week, but not less than 2 -3 times per month to make sure you are clean. Read the tutorial Tut#4: Routine Maintenance & Security for steps you should take, and how often, to keep your computer safe. You should check for updates for Spybot and whatever other scanners you use not less than once per week, more often if you think of it. In Spybot, always immunize after an update before running a scan.

| Thanks for the reminder about Tut#4! Forgot about that. I run scans weekly, but it's good to read it again! Thanks also for answering my questions! Very helpful! | |

Do you want to install it now?" Don't fall for it! Ignore it!
