I would like to be able to watermark my photos. I know there are several tutorials for GIMP. But, I was also wondering about "Free" software for this. i came across one and was wondering if anyone know anything about it.

It is by Manatee Software

Thanks.

Jane,
I have never heard of Manasoft to be honest. I am not sure I fully understand what it does either. From what I see its just simple text it is adding on. If Gimp has both the capabilities to add the simple text plus the digital watermark I don't think it should be necessary to get another program.

I have been looking into this and read more about the link you found. To be honest I actually prefer the concept of an invisible watermark, than the perceptible one.

Though, if the person is trying to go public with their art/pictures a visible copyright name & url address on the image would be the way to go.

Adobe Photoshop comes with a pulg-in in its filters called Digimarc. I went to Digimarc and you have to pay to get an ID... very expensive prices in my opinion but they are well known in the market and the top price offers a traceable device

I am interested this subject too... so I will not rest until I find a system I like

I found these tutorials on DevianArt... They are for photoshop - but you will get the idea. Why don't you post the links for the Gimp tutorials you found?

For those who are intrested in doing it in code for their Websites... see these (I have to look into them with more debt)

An Interesting article to read

CS2 has Digimarc as well... it's a free plugin for Adobe Photoshop... but... you have to get an ID from Digimarc to use it... the cheapest is around 1000 images for 79US$ with 512mb free backup and this one does not offer the Image Tracking.
