PostSubject: Ad-Aware V 8.3   Ad-Aware V 8.3 Empty7/24/2010, 18:31

Repa,
I was offered an upgrade from AdAware the other day Version 8.3. For some reason it didn't download & install.

1) I don't suppose you know why it didn't install?

2) Did you get this new version?

3) Don't I need to go to Majorgeeks for the 8.3 upgrade? Do you have a link for it?

Thanks

When you do downloads, try using IE instead of firefox. There seems to be a recent problem with firefox in this regard. You can download Ad-aware 8.3 from majorgeeks here:

Repa,
Ok, finally got Ad-aware 8.3 installed. For some reason it took about 30-40 minutes to apply the update. I used IE for this download, as well as the other 2 yesterday. I'm glad you mentioned using IE for all downloads from now on, or until I know FIREFOX WORKS AGAIN. As mentioned before I'm gonna give Opera a try too.

I've got some more questions I need to ask you about in another post, some folders and stuff, I found while doing this maintenance. So, please keep a look out for that post, if you don't mind.

Repa,

Have you noticed that it takes quite a bit longer for Ad-Aware to update, using the new 8.3 version? Is there anyway to speed that up?

I should've checked with you before I installed 8.3 , I guess. I keep thinking when a new version comes out, that I should get it right away.

Are you gonna install 8.3?

WC,

I just recently got as new computer and had to install ad-aware and ended up with 8.3.0. The updates seems slow to me also.
Apparently others are having the same problem. Here is one of the places they are talking about it - I havent' read it all yet.

I wonder if it's possible to go back to Version 8.1.0?

If it is just updating slower but hasn't affected your performance in any way I wouldn't worry about it.

If you still want to go back, and you still have the previous version setup application in your My Downloads, you can remove the current version from Add/Remove Programs and then re-install from the previous version setup application.

Just curious, why haven't you upgraded to 8.3?

Repa,

Please refresh my memory. Do I need to update Ad-Aware every day, or just before I do a scan?
I've been doing it each day, but, I'm unsure?

Ad-aware is supposed to update automatically, but it doesn't appear to do so, at least not consistently. New updates for Ad-aware usually aren't available everyday. You should check for updates 2 -3 times per week. It gives you realtime protection against malicious processes that try to start on your system, so you only need to run a scan occasionally - like once every other week - more if it makes you feel safer. You can run ccleaner 2 or 3 times or more a week to get rid of most of the stuff Ad-aware scans are likely to pick up that it doesn't catch in realtime, such as tracking cookies.

Repa, Thanks.

I've never used ccleaner. I assume that one has to download and install it? Do you have a majorgeeks link?

Once again, Thanks.

I'm gonna try to install Opera tonight. Wish me luck!
