I just discovered IE8 is now available. Does anyone know anything aout it?. I have IE7 - doesn't seem I have had it for that long.

I saw that it's available too. Haven't had IE7 that long either. I'm surprised that there's a new one also.

I haven't heard anything about it either.

Since IE8 is still not being offered as a download at Windows Update, I am not positive whether this is the final release or the Beta 2 version. Be aware that if you download it, it comes with MSN Toolbar and Silverlight. Also, there is a report that it doesn't use the Hosts file. Not a good thing, as the Hosts file provides major protection against malicious sites if configured as I have advocated in Tut#20. Other problems with IE8 can be viewed here:

A lot of problems are being reported with this browser. Right now, IE8 is not for me.

I agree with Repa... I would also suggest to wait as most likey they will be eliminating Vista, though its not clear if an entirely new operating system will be out or just a newer version of Windows XP... either way there will be a new browser on the make for that one too.... lol

I kept getting the IE8 notification on my work computer so I asked a couple of guys from the office what they thought - one is a senior developer (programmer), the other works on the company website. They both said that if I was going to use IE they strongly advised I install IE8. I just got thru installing it on my home computer. Now - will have to wait and see if I regret it.

I have IE 8 on my work computer and it is a lot like Firefox in many ways. Although for the things I do on the internet, at work, I like it better cuz you can open multiple tabs with one click of the arrow. Where in Firefox you gotta right click. I do not like the lack of options tho if you want to open one site in a window or an extra tab like Firefox does.

For what I do at work (not that I have a choice or anything LOL) I prefer IE 8. Sometimes now at home I will switch to IE8 just cuz I know how to accomplish quicker. Firefox is always my first choice but they are getting more and more a like. The last update to Firefox made it more like IE 8. SO I think it is preference. Or habit....
