I tried to install joomla engine, but there are so many problems...I'm so frustrated!!! I want to just dump Joomla! and find a different template. What is a good site to buy a template and not have to install any engine or anything? I just want to download a template, open it, and start to edit! HELP!! Evil or Very Mad This darn thing! enough SAID! I can't stand this!

Ruth,

I havent used templates, so I would not know where to look

All I can suggest is that you do a search... input keywords such as templates, the program you will be using to edit it and the scripting/programing language you will be using.

For example I used in this google search "templates dreamweaver css" and it pulled this:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=templates+dreamweaver+css&aq=f&oq=

I found the same template that my "client" wants at a different site than Joomla!. Here is the software required:
Hosting with PHP4x and MySQL4x;
Apache Server;
WordPress 2.7;
Adobe Photoshop CS+;
For uncompressing a template ZIP package:
WinZip 9+ (Windows);

I don't understand what the Hosting req., Apache Server, or Wordpress means. Apparently, I can't just buy it and Unzip it and edit, without installing something else??? I got excited at first, that I found the same template at a different template site. But, probably, more problems again? Can someone please explain?

I forgot, here's the link to it:

Wordpress isn't joomla, it's wordpress. It's more for blogging then anything else.

Thanks wwe! There won't be any blogging on her site. If there is a spot for blogging, I'll be removing it anyway, so do I need wordpress?

What does that other stuff mean (Hosting and Apache Server)?

Ruth,

I should probably stay out of this since I know so little about it, but I'll wade in just a little and if I get it wrong some one can let us know.

Hosting - is referring to the site where she has her web site. They "host" the web site. The server is the computer at the site where the pages you are developing will be located. Apace is referring to the type of software on the server that runs the server. You can do a search on :
"apache server" definition
and return links that will explain it some.

Hope this helps a little. If I am wrong, someone let me know.

I don't know about wordpress. I did a serach on it and returned some info. But I just glanced at it. If you are not going to use blooging and can delete anything in the template that might referer to blogging - I would guess that you dont need wordpress, but that is just a pure quess on my part.

Fay

looks like wwe and I were posting at the same time.

Joomla has a blogging thing built into it if i remember correctly. So no you do not need wordpress.

Hosting I assume you have already, I mean you installed joomla. Apache Server idk really how to explain it, but let me try; it's like within allot of servers. Its like a computer, and the computer is the server, apanche is the guts in the computer, server... Somoene else can probably tell you what it does. I know allot, and most, online applications, including this forum uses it, so chances are, your server will have it.

Thanks Fay and wwe!! Very Happy

Wwe...I did not install joomla. I tried to, but there were so many problems...I talked to their support numerous times. They helped me only so much, then kinda gave up and told me to contact different people. Tried that...basically got the run-around. So, I gave up on joomla.

So, if I understand correctly, Apache is probably already on the server, right? Why do they list it as software required then? I don't understand that.

The PHP and the MySql is on the hosting company, so there won't be any trouble when I upload it, right?

I'm getting more and more excited about buying this template!! Very Happy

Ruth,

You have to install Apache to run MYSQL/PHP ,since they are dependent on Apache. You have to write MYSQL/PHP into your web pages in order. Hope that helps

HA thanks treate... I'm not good at wording things;

Ruth, if you need joomla installed pm me, I'll need cpanel access so I can make(which you can delete it once i'm done, ftp account... It's easier if you give me cpanel access so I can create the database and what not without having to wait for you to get online and so on.

Well I didnt understnd that... lol

Erik,

Correct me if I am wrong.

I thought that when they (the template site) listed in the software requirements such as
Hosting with PHP4x, MySQL4x and Apache Server.

This is for those who has their own servers and will be hosting their own site... or if one is using a host company one should know if that host offer/support these in their servers.

From what I understand the Apache is needed on the Server cause its the program that helps all the different computers... Operating systems to "read" the website. Plus she would also need it cause its the software that this particular template needs to transfer (upload) the website (content) from her computer to the hosting server.

Again... isnt MySQL part for the host to have? As its to manage the database (to manage the traffic)?

PHP... is listed due to the language that this template was used to write/create it?

Thanks you guys! It all sounds too complicated for me. I'll probably have to switch templates. I thinking about this one:
http://www.templatehelp.com/preset/pr_preview.php?i=22641&pr_code=q9g6D0V1a50ECQ7dqk0r9V41sK2uZJ

Looks like it'll be pretty basic and easily editable. What do you guys think?
