| Repa,
Have you heard of Microsoft Security Essentials, & if so, what is your opinion of it? I think someone said it was an anti-virus.? thanks

| In all reviews of Avast vs MSE that I've read, Avast has outperformed Microsoft Security Essentials’ features (more of them in terms of protection) and finding and blocking viruses and other malware in tests performed, but depends on who's testing too. Both are good, scaning results are good for both, but Avast holds the edge and virus definitions are updated much more frequently, like every 6 hours vs sometimes several days apart. You have the best free antivirus and free realtime anti-malware combination in Avast and Windows Defender.
I was working on one of my nephew's computer recently that had tons of malware on it and a bootkit that almost destroyed the hard drive. Before I found and removed it, I installed Avast and it started blocking stuff that thing was calling down on the machine that MSE was not reporting. Until something better - and proven better- comes along, Avast is the only free anti-virus I'll use or recommend along with Windows Defender working together with it.

Warning! Beware of Download Manager install request in Ad Bar Under Geeks Logo | 10/31/2013, 16:09 by Repa | Just noticed that when I went to logon that there is an ad under the Geeks Logo that says, "your Download Manager might be outdated. Do you want to install it now?" Don't fall for it! Ignore it!
