| You're probably using a dated version of Spybot. This has happened to others after the last definition update for Spybot version 1.6.2. Uninstall Spybot from Add Remove programs and reinstall using Spybot Version 2.1 - click the Download button found on the following webpage: http://www.safer-networking.org/spybot2-own-mirror-1/ | |

| Repa, i just did the uninstall but with error....here's screen shots......i'm gonna install the version you said, V2.1 after i post this. thanks... BTW, please tell me if i should've waited to reinstall, after u view these scr shots...thanks I just remembered that when i clicked to uninstall I made the mistake of answering their popup question as to why i was uninstalling. Would that have caused the error stuff? EDIT: 2:09PM CDT: Repa more info. Got a scr shot of how long it was taking to download the 2.1 version, so i stopped it. Something's got to be wrong with it saying 10 or more hours left in the download. | |

The errors are inconsequential. The 2nd one is normal. If you have any problems with the install or after the install, just uninstall Spybot again and then go delete the folder named "Spybot - Search & Destroy" in C:\\Program Files(x86) and try the install again. As far as the download goes, that is a problem with your Internet Service. I had no problem downloading the file. The Download rate shown in your screenshot was only 2.40Kb/sec, much, much slower than even dialup. Snail mail if faster than that! (lol) Try again at a later time, and if you continue to have problems with the download, contact your internet service provider about your service.

| 1. i tried the download again later, a little faster at 62KB, then dropped down to 15KB, so i just let it run. It took a little over 35 minutes to finish.
When I tried to run the App. I got the blue circle, it just keep spinning. Does that mean that I'll need to delete this 2.1 ver download & try to download again later, or what?
2. Also, why is this version 2.1 twice as large as my 1.6.2 ver. was?

| 1. Doesn't sound right. The download should be 35,422KB and should proceed normally. Delete it and try downloading again later. I had no problems running the spybot install application.
2. I don't know why it's bigger - new, improved, faster or so the claims go. We'll see! Everything gets bigger as time goes on because machines get bigger and faster and programmers get lazy.

| Interesting - I haven't had time to install and work with it yet, very busy this week trying to put our house back together and next week will be in Kentucky. Looks like you've got it going so use the Update and Immunization icons to get the new definitions loaded and the system immunized as before, and the System Scan icon to scan your computer. The Settings icon will give you information on how Spybot is set up and operating and should tell you what protections you have working for you. As before, it gives you the ability to scan and remove malware and rootkits from your system and protect your PC by immunizing your browser and hosts file. It just looks different, and is supposed to be faster and more efficient. Just use it as you did before and you should be fine. Always uncheck the box for teatimer when downloading the new definitions, and you can check in Settings to see if it is active, and if it is, turn it off. If should be obvious if it is active, as you will get numerous windows interrupting your execution of tasks asking if you want to allow the action to continue that is changing your registry (or something to that effect). You don't need Spybot to use the internet - it gives passive protection by loading data in the registry and hosts file that protect you to some extent while using your browser. The manual scans you run look for anything that might have gotten past Avast and Windows Defender, and you need to continue to do them periodically. Think of Spybot as an offline scanner and not a realtime scanner.
I don't know why your downloading pictures is slower now, could be the Spybot SD IE protection addon for your IE browser. You could try disabling it (Tools > Manage Addons >Toolbars and Extensions) and see if it makes a difference.

| I don't quite understand your last 2 screenshots - if you could include those, why didn't you? The only thing you need to exclude in your updates is teatimer. If you can select all those with the red x in your update run, then do so. | |

I'll try to clear this up if I can. I was just showing u the updates that I had found in the above 2 screenshots . I made 2 more screenshots showing only the red updates that need to be installed. I ddin't see any mention of "Teatimer" anywhere as yet, not in any of these updates or anywhere else yet. I hope I can determine how to do all I was doing with the old version, & not get Teatimer either! Please look at these 2 screenshots. I haven't seen anyway to select all those with the red x in update. It looks to me like I have to click on where it says "Update" in the lower right corner & see what happens? 1. 2.

| Repa, got 2 screenshots of what happened when I clicked the "Update" button in the bottom right corner. I had no options to checkmark the ones with the Red X in the above scr shots. The 2 scr shots is what happened upon the click on Update. First shot shows the beginning & 2nd. pic shows the finish. And, the bar on the right end of photo, has too many things in it, that it would take a lot of scr shots, & take lots of time in order to capture it all, in many screen shots. 1. 2. I'll be glad when you install this new version. I am pretty much lost! | |

| WC, I am not having any problems with the old version of Spybot (1.6.2) and therefore in no hurry to install the new one. If you don't like the new version and still have the old version in your My Downloads folder, uninstall the new version, delete the folder named "Spybot - Search & Destroy" in C:\\Program Files(x86), reinstall the old version, update it and run a scan and see if things are working ok. If you don't have it in your My Downloads folder, you can download it from here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/5168/Click the "Download this Version" link at the top of the right column to start the download. I don't know why they didn't notify us about the new version when doing an update. It may be because the format of the malware definitions hasn't changed and to give people a choice on which version they prefer. I don't know what originally caused your error in the old version or the reports I saw about it on the internet - I never experienced the problem. | |

| I've still got the old version in My Downloads folder, so I may do that. But, I want to post 2 scr. shots here, so u don't have to back up to page one of this thread that I posted before to view them. Got questions about them for future reference, if you know the answer.? 1. I first selected the top option for less work, but I backed up & changed to the option on the bottom. In order to use the first option I'm thinking that it is for the paid version. Do you know? 2. Some of these boxes were check marked at first, but, once again I figured you would need to have the paid version to use it? Plus, I did not really know what the checked boxes were good for.? Do you know if both of these required a paid version to use? 3. I also checked on disabling Spybot SD IE protection add on, but there is not one showing when I opened it up. Pics and the webpages here are slower than they used to be downloading. So, I still don't know what to do about that, but it's another reason to go back to old version. Thanks....... | |

No, they appear to give you options to schedule updates and scans automatically, which I don't like to do. Spybot should only be run a few times a month in case something slips by your other protections (Avast, Windows Defender). I don't think it has anything to do with a paid version - go to their website and read about it.
3. I also checked on disabling Spybot SD IE protection add on, but there is not one showing when I opened it up. Pics and the webpages here are slower than they used to be downloading. So, I still don't know what to do about that, but it's another reason to go back to old version.
If you can find it, go into Tools > Resident, and uncheck the box next to Resident "SDHelper" and see if that changes anything. You'll also see under that a checkbox for Teatimer that should already be unchecked and if it isn't, uncheck it. I would recheck the Resident "SDHelper" box after your experiment and if it appears to be the culprit slowing your process down, go back to the older version. Does the scan run any faster? - just curious.
Thanks....... | |

But, I'll tell you what, I don't know how long it takes you to scan, but, but, my old version 1.6.2 was only taking about 20 minutes to scan. How long does your scans take?

I don't know where it is on that version because I haven't installed it yet. Find a Help icon or link somewhere on your main page and click on it, click on Tutorials or if not there, whatever seems to relate to instructions on how to use Spybot and search through the them to find the information you need.

| I don't know what is causing it but, this site is not working properly for me, & it might be caused by the new spybot or the changes you made to this site. As soon as I can return to the spybot ver. 1.6.2 maybe things will return to normal for me.
If not for you telling me to delete the Spybot S&D folder in C:\\Program files I would try a System Restore back to before I installed the New Ver. 2.1 of Soybot.

| I went ahead an installed the new version of SPYBOT, and I must say I don't like it much. I have not had much time to mess with it, but I liked the old version much better. I have not been able to find TEATIMER at all. That is ok, cause I don't want it, but just strange I can't find it. Sometimes they should just leave stuff alone LOL I do not think it is as easy to use as the old version. Maybe I'll get use to it, maybe not. Repa, if you install it let us know what you think of it.
Right now I am with WC - I do not care for it.

| Repa, I've got screen shots of 2 scans I ran with spybot New Ver. 2.1, to show ya'll what it looks like, & time it takes to run the scans. The first scan took 1 hr.& 15 minutes. The second scan took 1hr. & 9 minutes. Here's the screen shots of the first scan , I'll post first, it's 4 pics. 1. 2. 3. 4. Let me also mention when I open up these webpages here, & I guess the screen starts scrolling from left to right, with herky jerky motions, & is maybe caused by how long it takes to download now. I never used to have any problem. And, when I try to post in the text box at the bottom of thread the box scrolls & closes up so I am unable to post itn that box, so I have to click reply. Maybe it'll be ok after I do the spybot 2.1 uninstall, & reinstall the old 1.6.2 ver. I'll post the second scr shots below in another post, since I'm having a problem seein what I'm posting. When I click "Host An Image" the box covers up the text box where I'm trying to place the image. | |
