Google has released a new Open-Source browser - Chrome

Chrome is in Beta and only for Windows Vista/XP SP2 at the moment.

It shows some serious promise with some great ideas. It would be interesting to see how it compares to the new stuff both Mozilla and Apple are pumping out. Google will have a long way to go with this effort... and with IE8 around the corner.

Check out what Cnet news has to say

Here are some extra screen-shots of the browser

Read what Mozilla think of Google Chrome here:

and here you can download it:

Many reviews I have read says that overall it's dead nice. Simple and it does seem much faster.

Check out the speed test a dude did of scripting engines recently.

I'm using chrome(well was) It kept freezing, but not shutting down like FF...It would come up with a report thingy asking me if I wanted to close it. I would click the X and then it would be fine for a while, then do it again...It's really fast, and easy to use!!!

This comment (in Sam's first link) is what has always concerned me about Google's products, like its toolbar, etc:

"If you're not careful with your privacy settings, Google has the right to log every keystroke you type into the browser's address/search bar."

They have, in the past, incorporated features in their products that do have some spyware-like qualities. Seems the practice has not been abandoned if the above comment is correct.

I have seen the articles on the Google browser. PCWorld notes that Google maybe spreading itself too thin. However, since I am not a fan of Google, I do not worry. I have Google in Favorites for searching the internet and that is all.

Also, I am not sure I would want a Beta browser from someone who tinkers with my surfing.
