acer and external hard drive Empty
PostSubject: acer and external hard drive   acer and external hard drive Empty9/5/2012, 21:35

It appears that my usb external hard drive must be plugged into my acer aspire when it is hot booted for it to be recognized. Restart will not do it. That is not the case on my other computer, I can plug it an after the cmputer is on and it will recognize it.

Have any idea why?

Fay

No idea. I have a problem with my acer aspire usb ports too. Sometimes my usb remote mouse will not work in the 2 ports on the right side, but will in the port on the left. When that happens, it's more like the 2 right ports are dead - nothing happens if you plug anything into them when the computer is on, or even if you restart or do a shutdown and boot up from scratch. The only solution I have found to this problem is to do a restore back to a time when the ports were working ok. Seems like the drivers for those ports may become corrupted, or maybe a poor connection that is intermittent, but I really don't know. Thinking about calling acer and see if they know about this problem. Maybe you should do the same.

Repa,

Yesterday, the only way I could get it to work was as I stated in my post - cold boot with it plugged in. I tried several times. Today booted up the computer, then plugged in the drive and it worked. Tried it twice -worked both times - I do not understand.

Not sure when before this it worked. I have not used in much with my acer. I would hate to have to do a restore to a prior point , cause I have been making a lot of changes trying to get it set up the way I want it to do a system image with macrium - that is why I needed the external hard drive.

Since it is working today , guess I'll just see how it goes.

Thanks,
Fay

wc.

Sorry if this confused you. It does not apply to you. I still think you should get an external hard drive.

I have a 2nd computer that is a small laptop called a netbook. I was tying to connect my external hard drive to it and was having some trouble getting it to recognize it. I do not know what was wrong but it finally worked. I was trying to connect it so that I could created an image of my netbook on the external hard drive. I finally managed to do it.

This was just about the problem I was having with my netbook.

I think you should go ahead and follow Repas suggestion to get the external hard drive.
Again sorry for the confusion.

Fay
