ie tabs - very interesting - at least to me

I have spent quite some time trying to figure out what I though was a problem with opening additional tabs in IE.

My home page is google.com. I set tabs to open to the first home page.

This worked fine if I opened IE by clicking on IE icon. I could open it - go to where ever I wanted on first tab, open a secon tab and it went to goolge.com as I wanted.

I have several shortcuts set up to open to different sites. Some of them
worked as expected, some did not.

Well, there are at least 2 ways to created these shortcuts.
One is to right click , select - new- short cut and enter the URL.
Second , is to open ie, go to the site and drag the icon from the url to the desktop.

This created 2 lightly different types of shortcuts.

When created the first way, the 2nd tab opens to the first home page as I expected.
when created the 2nd way, the 2nd tab opens to the same place as specified in the shortcut, just like when originally opened - so have 2 tabs opened to same site.

Hmmmm. took me a long time to figure that out.

Just posting this in case any one else comes across it.
