PostSubject: another processor question   another processor question Empty3/16/2010, 17:25

I found a comparison list of Intel processors.
Seems the difference between the i7-9xx processors and the i7-8xx processors is that the -9's have a higher bus speed, which is good. But the -9's do not have Intel Trusted Execution Technology and the -7's do. I am not sure exactly what it is - tried to do some reading on it. Has something to do with security - but other than that the descriptions pretty much lost me.

Does anyone know what that is, a simple explanation? Is it something I would want? Would it be better to get one with the higher bus speed or one with the Trusted Execution Technology?
Why would the more expensive processors not have it?

Thanks,
Fay

Fay, sorry it's taken so long to get back to you on this. I can't find a simple explanation, and the technology is passing me by. I'm not really a hardware guy when it comes to computers, but have you read wikipedias explanation at:

Repa,

np, I know you have been busy.

I read the main article but not the links it referred to. I am afraid most of it went right over my head. I am leaning toward one of the i7-9xx processors because they have a higher bus speed than the i7-8xx processors but the i7-9xx processors don't have the trusted execution technology. After reading the article I am still not sure if it is something I would want/need.

I said the i7-9xx have a higher bus speed, but I am not quite sure about that either. Tthe I7-9xx shows the bus speed using GT/s QPI and the i7-8XX show the bus speed using GT/s DMI. I don't know how to compare the 2.

It is all very confusing.

Thanks,
Fay

I don't either, Fay, but after next week I'll have more time and will do some reading if you haven't already made your decision. As I said before, hardware isn't my strong suit, and technology is rapidly passing me by!
