Repa,
I'm still using Avast Version 2014.9.0.2006.......I'm not having any problems with it(knock on wood).....
1. Which version are you using now?

2. How long will Avast continue to support older versions such as I'm using?

3. And, finally, don't you always continue to use all your AV, & anti-malware apps., etc. until you start having problems with one of them??? I think you said there's no reason to change otherwise, correct?.....
thanks.....

Avast 7.0.1466. Still working like a charm. Yes, I plan on keeping this version until it is no longer supported or starts to give me problems. It still works fine and not having problems like Fay with getting false positives with the latest version of 2014.

Avast Version 2014.9.0.2006 is the version I had to go back to, when I was unable to get what you have.   So, like you I am planning to keep it as long as I can....

Got a question about Spybot....My number of protected Items shows 188799, & this number has been the same 188799 for the last 6 months, even though it updates usually each Wednesday, although, this week it keeps telling me "No newer updates are available", which is unusual, & concerns me....Should I be overly concerned, about it showing the same number of protected items for so long, & also, the usual update being late this week? Thanks......

Yea, I noticed the same thing some time ago. It appears to do the malware definition updates, but immunization doesn't change. I've downloaded and installed the latest version, but in a different folder to test it. I ran a scan and the resulting display is very confusing, so I'm keeping both versions until I have time to figure out what the new version is doing. Seems like every time these companies change their designs that have been working well for years to make things better, they produce an inferior product that is difficult to understand and slows the system down. But then, malware and viruses are getting more and more sophisticated and it's a race to try to keep up with them and stop them, and of course, they don't know what's coming next until it infects millions of computers. Anyway, I'll let you know about the new Spybot when I get a chance to do some reading and rerun it. If you want to try it yourself in the meantime, install it in a different folder than the one the old one is in and leave the old version as it is, updating them both.

I do the updates manually since I only use Spybot as a scanner for malware, and not realtime. I try to remember to update once weekly. When I do an update, there is usually one or more available.

I did updates for Spybot yesterday and there was one malware definition file downloaded. The newer version had several updates. Spywareblaster had the latest updates from about 2 weeks ago.
