Repa,

I figure you probalby use web-based e-mail but I figured you could probably answer this quesiton anyway.

I use Windows Live Mail - and I know there are advantage to the web based e-mail - but for now I choose to do it they way I do it Smile

I know you can go it to the client and change where the store is. I have not tried that. I am the only one that uses my computer and I have partitioned my computer and my data is not going on the C drive. But my e-mail is still going there. I would like to move it to one of my other partitions. Is there a problem with dong that?

If not, and if I do that , would I be able to move all my e-mail I already have over to the new location?

Not sure if I will do this or not. But, think I might like to, but don't want to do it if it will cause problems.

I see where to change the location for the mail - but is there a way to chnage the lcoation for the contacts?

Thanks
Fay

I moved over DOCUMENTS and several other folders under my user name, by using the location tab.

I have not yet moved over the e-mail - but I see I can go into WLM and change the store location.

But I still don't see how to change the locaion for WLM contacts. - mabye I am missing something.
Thid also is not critical so you don't need to spend time reasearchng for me. If I decide I want to do it - maybe I'll tyr going to bleeping computer - haven't been there in a long time.

Thanks for all your help.

Fay

The instructions near the bottom of this webpage appear to include moving the contacts file as well:

http://www.optimizingpc.com/software/windowslivemail.html

Scroll down toward the end of the page and read (including supplied links) after the title

Repa,

I am still missing something.
I moved the Contacts folder the same way I moved the Documents folder.
But I don't think that is the same as the Winsows LIve Contacts - at least as far as I can tell from some other things I have read.
There is a Windows Live Contacts folder in the same location as the WIndows Live Mail folder - it does not have a location tab.
I did not see in the above aritcle or links where it told to move that. I am missing it somehow.
I am really not sure what the difference in the 2 Contacts folders is (the are stored in different lcoations)

Seems like they worked overtime making this as confusing as possible Sad

From what I was able to find, the real contacts folder is a hidden, protected operating system .edb file and is located by the following path:

C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts\{b5f3929f-ba60-4632-ad4e-b602b1c8e007}\DBStore\contacts.edb

Hope this helps.

Repa,
Repa,
I keep my system set so that I can see system and hidden files so I can see that and there is no no location tab there - and I don't see any way in windows live mail to change the location. I guess I should just probably leave the contacts alone.
That is not something that changes often - so I probably don't have to worry too much about routinely backing it up. Besides from some other things I have read and what you said earlier, I don't think I can restore from a straight backup of it anyway. I think there is an export for it in WLM so I guess I should just do that and remember to do it again if I make changes to my contacts - and want to be able to restore.

Wow, sooooo much I don't know or understand Sad
Every time I think I am getting to know a bit more - I find out I don't know anything. LOL

Thanks again,
Fay
