NoScript

When opening up FF today, I got the Noscript page again, as I mentioned before. And, it must open when it does an automatic update.

Are all the links on that page, at noscript.net, ads, and we should not click on them?

No, don't click on any of the links. You always get that page after a NoScript update. Just go to your homepage.

1) I've been meaning to ask this question for sometime but, other problems cause me to forget it. My wife was attempting to place an order online tonight, from a site she uses regularly, with no problems before with her "limited account", naturally. I think she was having "Buyers Remorse" pertaining to her agreement to having just one account on the computer, so after the problem she had ordering, I'm of course hearing about it. She was using Firefox, and when the site's next step was to click the continue button, she wasn't carried to the next step. I told her it must have to do with the "No Script" . I finally opened up IE browser and told her to try completing the order in IE. Which she did, without further problems.

My question is how does one determine which options to "Allow" in No Script? I've never even heard of most all that stuff in there that one could allow, when the Option button is clicked. And, she said that before I deleted her limited account, she had not experienced any trouble placing an order.

2) While on this subject, I'll ask this now too. In the past I have gone to one of the "News" websites to read an article. And, when I get to the site, there is a video there also, but, there's a big red "S" there that means the No Scripts function needs to be allowed. So, if a trusted site, I'll click "Allow", but the video will still have the "S" on it, and I don't recognize any of the "Options" that can be allowed. This is of course along the same lines as the first question, but, it is one I still have trouble figuring out.

Now you know why my preference is IE. I don't have the patience to mess with NoScript, and that's why I use DropMyRights with my IE browser - so I don't have to be concerned with those issues. To answer your question, if you use firefox, you have to experiment and enable them (temporarily until you learn which ones are needed) one at a time until things work the way you expect. Once you know which cookies to enable, you can enable those permanently and firefox will remember them later. Was NoScript on her limited user account firefox browser?

When you have that "S" on the video, you left-click on the "S" and a window will pop up and give you the option of temporarily enabling the cookies needed to watch the video. In the case of this video, it needed the cookies for conservatives4palin.com and brightcove.com. None of the rest of them needed to be enabled.

Now you know why my preference is IE I was thinking in those terms last night when I switched over to IE.

I don't have the patience to mess with NoScript I'm beginning to be like that also. We may have to rethink IE and maybe try to get used to it, if I don't have the problems like I used to have with it. If you remember that was why I switched over to FF. When I switched her over to IE to finish the order I was kinda leary that it may cause her some grief, but, it worked out okay. So, it may be IE again.

When you have that "S" on the video I have in the past clicked on a video such as this "S"one I mentioned, and it had a bunch of writing, code, or a path, whatever it was, and the only thing I recognized was "Shockwave" in all that writing, but when I clicked on the options, Shockwave was not on there to be allowed. So I just used it temporarily like it said.

Yep, definitely gonna consider IE.

Have you ever tried the Chrome browser? When I have used it, it is kinda difficult for me to use because the way things are set up at the top of that browser. Very hard to try to place any type of online order, at least for me. It would probably be a piece of cake for you.

Shockwave is installed on your system and is a browser addon. You will also see it in your Add/Remove Programs. If you don't have it installed, you can get it from www.adobe.com/shockwave/ .

I've never used Chrome and just uninstalled it from a system I'm working on for a friend.

1) No, I do have Shockwave, that's why I was looking for it in the options in No script.

2) I'm trying to get completely away from anything google because I don't trust them with our security. Can you tell me why you uninstalled Chrome from that computer?

3) I looked trying to see if I can Import our FF bookmarks over to IE, but was unable to find anything pertaining to import/export bookmarks. Perhaps you know how?

Naturally mine has to be difficult! I followed your path, but as you can see in the screen shot the Import from another browser is grayed out and unuseable. And as you can see, at top it says "Import/Export Settings". I've never seen one like this. All I've ever used to import is like you described i your path above.

How do I get the "Import from another browser" option to be useable??

What version of Internet Explorer are you using, and what version of firefox?

You know WC, I have 4 different kinds of computers here and I checked the IE Import and Export screen on each one, and none of them have the "Import from another browser" missing like you do! You are a jinxed person!

Ok, open you Firefox browser.
1. On the menu bar, click on Bookmarks >Show all bookmarks. Another window will open.
2. On the menu bar of the new window, click on Import and Backup
3. Select Export Bookmarks to HTML and browse to your My Documents folder if it isn't already showing in the box beside the browse button and then click the save button.

Open your IE Browser
1. On the menu bar, select File > Import and Export > Import from File > select Favorites > browse to the Bookmarks.html file in your My Documents folder if it isn't already showing there and click Next.

Your bookmarks from firefox should now be in your IE favorites.

I got on my old xp computer and had a look. If I logged on normally the import from browser was available, but if I logged on to a limited account I created, it was greyed out. Do not know what else might cause it.

Well Fay, DropMyRights makes the browsers in XP work as if you are in a limited account, but on my XP machine (7 yrs old), that selection is not grayed out. Maybe on WCs computer (12yrs old), he should use the browser shortcut without the DropMyRights target path to see if it comes up. That's the only thing I can think of, anyway.

I have seen you and WC talke about it, but I have never used drop my rights - so don't know about that. On my old machine I have win xp and IE 8, and had the behavior I posted. In my full account it was not grayed out, in a limited accunt it was. Thas is all I know about it.

I also never really use the limited account, just set up for testing.

I know it is hard to track down some of these things - too many variable.

Well, the other instructions I gave you for exporting a file from firefox and picking it up with IE will work just fine. Just involves an extra step.
