I decided to get a netbook, orderd it from WalMart. I want to learn some about wrieless, and hopefully I will get it set up so I can work on some things in the living room or by bedroom. I have an app I wrote myself in VFP, The app is located on my main computer. I am working on figuing out how to run the app from there while on a network computer, right now my old xp computer. Then hopefully I can set up the netbook, when I get it - to be able to access my app from that.
The netbook comes with just 1GB RAM and with windows starter, hopfully that will be enough to do what I need on it at least for a while. The thing I don't know about is the battery - I think it is supposed to have just a 3 hour battery life. but it is possible to get a 6 hour one for it. But, I guess I can still use it wireless from the living room or my berdroom and just plug it in if I need to.

I read something about 7 starter comming with office starter and that you can actually put office starter an a usb drive to run on other computers. WIll have to check into that when I get it.

So much to learn.

Fay

Not very happy with the acer netbook right now. Last night after the squealing, it just started freezing up. Could not do anyting. Was getting ready to do the recovery from the recofery partition when things started responidng again. Then this morning first thing it started freezing up again.
I did some gooling, did not find a real solution. Couple of them said they had to return the computer. One of them said first they made him do the revocery , so that is what I am doing now.
I don't know if it is an ACER problem or a NETBOOK problem. Either way I am not too happy.

I have never mailed anything back before - not sure exaclty how to mail it. I ordered it from WalMart.com. I don't know if I can take it back there - or have to send it to Acer.

I'll see what happens with the restore - but don't have much hope - since the one guy said he did the restore and it did not help. But I was making quite a few changes - so I'll give it a try.

I think that if you haven't had it more than 14 days, you can take it to your walmart store and get your money back. If more than 14 days and you have their extended warranty, you should have a contact number to call and they will either fix or replace. Otherwise, you will have to deal directly with Acer, but it shouldn't be a problem since you haven't had the netbook long.

I got the restore done and have been using it around 3 hours I think. So far it has been working ok. The post that I found the guy said when he called support they made him try the restore to factury defaults before sending back. So that is what I did.

Kind of strange, it happened right after I was messing with the sound/vo;ume settings. First the really loud squealing, then the locking up. Don't know if that had anything to do with it or not

I do not have the extended warranty I seldom get that. If it is going to mess up again, hope it will do it in the next couple of days, and I'll see about taking it back to WalMart.

Thanks,
Fay
