Avast Boottime Scan Empty
PostSubject: Avast Boottime Scan   Avast Boottime Scan Empty8/17/2013, 13:37

Hey, Repa,

1.  Never had this occur before.....i tried twice to run avast boottime scan today...the first time i left the room and came back 5 minutes later & it had returned to the desktop....i checked the scan log & it showed zero minutes to scan......then i tried doing it again & this time i watched it, all it did was reboot the computer like when you click "Restart", & it was recorded in the Avast scan log as if it had actually run a scan, as it did the first time.

2.  Has this ever happened to you?

3.  Do you know how to get it to actually run a Boottime scan now?

4. do u think i need to delete & reinstall avast?

Thanks.....

Make sure your boot-time settings haven't been altered (during an update?). Open Avast to Boot-time scan and select the “Settings” link on the right side. In the window that opens, under “Areas to scan”, click the down-arrow and select “All harddisks” or “System Drive” if you just want to scan the C drive. At the bottom of the page under “When a threat is found apply the following action”, click the down-arrow and select “Move to Chest.” Click OK and click the “Schedule Now” button and click "Restart computer." If, by chance, Avasts quarantines files that it shouldn’t, they can always be restored from the quarantine folder.

If it doesn't work after this, look at your Avast scan logs and find when your last successful boot-time scan was recorded and restore your system to back to that time, or a time before that.

Avast Boottime Scan Empty
PostSubject: Re: Avast Boottime Scan   Avast Boottime Scan Empty8/19/2013, 14:59

Thanks....

1.  Got a couple of screen shots, then I'll check to see if I can do a system restore, & what if I can't find a suitable restore point to go back to?

2.  These scr. shots confirm that I already had the settings set to about what you posted for me to do.  Anyway, after I Rechecked my Settings as you suggested, & I did not make any changes, I still tried another boottime scan to see if it worked now, & I watched the screen.   Windows started up like it was going to do a Bootime scan, but then as I read the screen, at the bottom all of a sudden it said that scan was completed and was going to continue to "Boot UP".   Screen shots:

A.  Avast Boottime Scan Avast_10

B. Avast Boottime Scan Bootti10

I'll let you know about System Restore.

EDIT 5:14 PM CDT:
I had to restore back to 8/10/2013, then tried the boottime scan & it ran OK as expected. Now, I've got to go back and re-install this month's 13 Windows Updates once again. Do you klnow if there's anything else I have to do to be up to date? Check back later...

Repa
since you haven't been back, I'll just post this separate. I'll just post this screenshot because I've got it. This shows 9 out of 12 Win updates it says is "Pending". I've never seen that before, have you? But, then after I restarted my computer after they installed, it then showed that all 12 had been successful.

Avast Boottime Scan Win_up10

Have you seen it say "pending" before? Thanks.........

Can't say for sure that I have or haven't. Looks like your computer is ok, so don't worry about it.
