PostSubject: spybot grrrrrrr   spybot grrrrrrr Empty11/22/2013, 02:09

Working on getting things set back up on my computer. Downloaded and installed SpyBot - ended up with verison 2.2.21.0 which I do not like at all -seems much more complicated.
Guess I need to see if I can find an older version -not sure what I had on this computer before. Not sure where to find an older version, but that will wait till tomorrow.

Why do places that have a good thing have to ruing it - while thinking they are improving Sad

Fay

I'm still on 1.6.2.46. You can find downloads for older versions here in the column on the right side of the page:

http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/5168/

This is a relatively safe site for downloads, but run your scanners on the the installer application after you download it to make sure nothing is detected. I assume you know about right-clicking on the file and selecting the scanner you want to run from the drop down menu that appears? Avast, Spybot, and Malwarebytes will all be in that list. If you decide to install the older version, make sure you uninstall the newer version first.

Just got it. Yep, I knew about the right click but do not always think about it. Thanks for reminding me.
I have not reverted back on Avast yet, will see how it goes, but really hated the new version of SPYBOT, wish they would not make such drastic changes .

Thanks
Fay

let me know what you discover about avast Fay, particularly in the way of computer performance. I always hate to upgrade to such drastic changes in applications that run in realtime until forced to because they generally are not nearly as efficient as earlier versions and often hog computer resources, slowing down the performance of the computer. I can remember when Norton Antivirus was the only antivirus to have until it became such a resource hog, and that was quite a few years ago. The thing I like most about Avast, at least up to the version I have, is that it doesn't put a drain on computer resources, and has given adequate web protection against malicious downloads. It does very infrequently give false positives, but I can live with those since I usually know how to discern them from the real thing, and if I'm not sure I'll sent it to Avast for confirmation.
