Repa,

I doubt that you use it , but how much do you know about online backups?

I have a couple of external drives that I use to backup my stuff. But if there was ever a fire or anything I could lose data I could never recover. Hopefully that will never happen, but I would hate to lose years worth of data.

I took a brief glance at Microsoft Skydrive OneDrive (free). I downloaded it (I have windows 7) but did not spend much time looking at it. What instructions I found were a bit confusing to me. It seta up a OneDrive folder on the hard drive and looks like you have to move stuff into it. So, does that mean the files you want to back up will be 3 places, the originally location, the one drive folder in the hard drive and then in the cloud.

If they are in the original location and then the one drive folder on the hard drive -seems they take up double the space - I would not like that.

It is all a bit confusing to me - is there perhaps a better free choice than skydrive.
If you do not know - don't spend any time researching for me, it is not that important.

Thanks
Fay

Don't know Fay, and would not want to use it myself. I have 2 external drives of 2TB each where I backup my computers. Sorry that I can't answer your questions.

Repa,

No problem. I really figured you probably did not used it. But , thought I would ask just in case you might know something. I really do not like the idea either, but then I also do not like the idea of losing some many years of data- in case the house was destroyed by fire, tornado or whatever - course nope that never happens. But I could never get that data back. Am thinking of backing up the data to a DVD and mailing to my sister. Course I would not do that very often and would still lose data. But maybe if I did it once or twice a year I could recover most.
I would still do my normal backups to my external drive.

Thanks
Fya

Fay, another thought, if you put it on a DVD you could just put it in a safe deposit box if you have one......

WC.

I do not have a safety deposit box. I did put on CD's and am going to mail to my sister.
I will have more recent backups here. The ones I send her will just be in case something happens to the house, and they will not be current but at least I could recover most of my data.
I guess at sometime I should check into a safety deposit box, have just never had one.

Thanks
Fay
